Shena is the first non-physician ever invited to serve in a leadership role with ASA, serving as the Vice-Chair of its Committee on Practice Management, which has been a member since 2020.

2018
Founding of Scott Healthcare Consulting
Since opening SHC, Ms. Scott has assisted more than 100 practices in 30 different states, with strategic planning, governance, anesthesia market assessments and hospital negotiations.
She has participated in the selection, negotiation, management, and oversight of relationships with numerous outside vendors and consultants of all types.
We are typically engaged jointly by the anesthesia group and the hospital, or hired directly by the practice.
In either scenario, our goal is to work collaboratively with anesthesia groups and their facility partners to help the parties make informed decisions about the best way to utilize increasingly scarce and expensive anesthesia resources.

FAAA Legislative Liaison
Work with FSA leaders to advance legislative initiatives important to anesthesiologists on both the state and national level.
2013
Brevard Physician Associates, PLLC
BAS decided to join forces with three other physician groups and several hospital-employed physicians to form Brevard Physician Associates, PLLC, (BPA).
An independent group of over 200 providers that services all the anesthesiology, emergency medicine and radiology services to the largest integrated delivery network in Brevard County.
Ms. Scott served as an advisor to BPA during its merger and formation and as its senior Executive Administrator for five years prior to opening SHC.
Facilitate the integration of six physician groups with different cultures and governance expectations. And ensured initial financial viability for all divisions amidst significant financial and time pressures.
2011
Chair of MGMA Board of Directors
Facilitated the merger of MGMA with its credentialing body, the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE), an organization by which Shena is Board Certified and has been awarded Fellowship status.
Brought together disparate factions and effectively led this 22,500-member organization that, through its members, represents more physicians than the American Medical Association (AMA).
2009
MGMA Chair of Assembly Society Task Force
Ms. Scott led a task force decision-making process to recommend leadership teams to embrace controversial but innovative changes to their structure, which had been stagnant for 25 years.
2005
Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)
Served on the Government Affairs Committee of MGMA, as president of its Anesthesia Administration Assembly (AAA) and is the founder of the Florida Anesthesia Administrators Association (FAAA).
Created the first anesthesia specific cost survey, and facilitated collaboration between MGMA and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) to co-sponsor.
Mediated a conversation between MGMA and the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) to improve integrity of published CRNA salary data.
Worked with ASA to commission a Government Accounting Office study of Medicare’s under-valuation of anesthesia services. Assisted with the development of ASA’s now annual anesthesia commercial fee survey.
2002 - 2004
Florida Society of Anesthesiologists (FSA)
First non-physician invited to work closely with FSA as liaison to Government Affairs and Economics Committees, educating legislators about problems with Medicare reimbursement for anesthesiology services.
1991
Brevard Anesthesia Services, P.A
Shena spent the first 22 years of her healthcare career as the Executive Director of Brevard Anesthesia Services, PA, (BAS), a practice with over 50 providers that provided all the anesthesia services to the largest hospital in Brevard County, Florida and an affiliated same day surgery center.
During this time she continuously improved revenue while maintaining overhead at less than half the national benchmark.
Negotiated numerous facility contracts and various forms of stipends. Created effective recruitment and retention strategies, and built strong relationships with physicians, hospital executives and people of all levels to yield results.
