Shena Scott, MBA, FACMPE, is a nationally recognized anesthesia and healthcare management expert. With over 30 years in the medical practice management field, she has overseen virtually every type of issue a healthcare practice might encounter. She spent the first 22 years of her healthcare career as the Executive Director of Brevard Anesthesia Services, PA, (BAS), a 50+provider practice that provided all of the anesthesia services to the largest hospital in Brevard County, Florida. In 2013, BAS decided to join forces with three other physician groups and several hospital-employed physicians to form Brevard Physician Associates, PLLC, (BPA), an independent group of over 200 providers (+/-100 physicians and 100+ advanced level practitioners) that services all of the anesthesiology, emergency medicine and radiology services to the largest integrated delivery network in Brevard County. Ms. Scott served as an advisor to BPA during its merger and formation and as its senior Executive Administrator for five years prior to opening Scott Healthcare Consulting, Inc. in 2018.

Throughout these roles, Shena Scott has been actively engaged with every aspect of running a large physician practice. She has served as a trusted advisor to various governing boards and committees and been the “hands on” manager for every aspect of recruitment, employee hiring and on-boarding, evaluation, scheduling, compensation, financial management, billing and collections, managed care contracting, benefits and retirement plan selection and administration, working with facility leadership to optimize staffing and operational efficiencies, quality reporting, analyzing new business ventures, etc. She has participated in the selection, negotiation, management and oversight of relationships with numerous outside vendors and consultants of all types. She has a proven track record of working with office staff, advanced level practitioners and physicians to build trusting, transparent, successful relationships that yield results. She believes in embracing change and has helped identify and develop physician leaders, merge opposing cultures, and capitalize on diverse strengths to build successful, integrated teams.

In addition, Ms. Scott has been equally active as an advocate for physicians and advancing these ideals on the national healthcare front. As Chair of the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association) Board of Directors in 2011, she oversaw the merger of that entity with its credentialing body, ACMPE (American College of Medical Practice Executives), an organization by which she is Board Certified.   She is one of only about 1000 medical practice administrators in the country to have been awarded ACMPE Fellowship status. MGMA has over 25,000 members and is a leading voice for physician practice executives and the physicians they serve. She also served on the Government Affairs Committee of MGMA, as a past President of its Anesthesia Administration Assembly and is the founder of the Florida Anesthesia Administrator’s Association. She has been a frequent lecturer and guest columnist for the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), as well as for MGMA and other organizations, for more than 20 years.
